Probe ordered into police torture of accused

LARKANA, Jan 26: Taking serious notice of the incident of chopping of sensitive part of a theft accused at the Market police station allegedly by police, adviser to the Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Waseem Akhtar, ordered an inquiry into the incident on Friday.

He has directed the Inspector General of Police, Sindh, to complete the inquiry within three days.

He had also suspended the SHO and ordered arrest of ASI Aftab Abbasi and two cops and registration of an FIR against them.

The IGP Sindh had appointed SP investigation,Karachi, Mushtaque Mahar, for initiating inquiry into the incident and sought a report within three days, sources said.

Terming the incident a cruel act, Mr Waseem Akhtar said that police officers would not be spared adding that torture at the police stations would not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, the victim was shifted to the jail ward in Chandka Medical College Hospital on Friday, where the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Larkana, Akhtar Gorchani also met him.

He (the victim) narrated his ordeal and accused the SHO of Market police station, Khan Mohammad Tunio of cutting his sensitive part, the DIG said.

The DIG also visited the Market police station, met the prisoners lodged in the lock-up to ascertain the facts.

The DIG said that Huzoor Bakhsh was kept alone in the lock- up. No one had met him in the lock up, he said. The tea cup used in the crime as police said was blood stained with sharp cutting edges, he said. The circumstances and evidences showed that he (Huzoor Bakhsh Malik) had done it himself, the DIG claimed. He said that DPO Larkana Azim Tunio was made the inquiry officer who is yet to begin his work.

The DIG said that action would be taken against the SHO in accordance with the findings of the inquiry.
