KARACHI, Jan 26: A young man was arrested for stabbing a prayer leader in Baldia Town during Friday sermon, police said. Quoting witnesses, the officials of the Baldia Town police said a young man attacked Maulana Khalil-ur-Rehman Chishti, pesh imam of Jama Masjid Gulzar-i-Habib in Gulshan-i-Labour, Baldia Town No.3.

“He stabbed the pesh imam once in the abdomen and people in the mosque caught him with the knife and handed him over to us,” a police official said.

The attacker was identified as Ali Akbar. The police lodged a case of attempt to murder against him. The police said they had no clue yet if the accused was affiliated with any religious outfit.
