LHC moved against kite flying law

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 25: A law firm on Thursday moved the Lahore High Court against the Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Ordinance, 2007. Challenging the ordinance, Muhammad and Ahmad Law Company through advocate Muhammad Azhar sought contempt of court proceedings against authorities concerned for violating the orders of the Supreme Court. The petition said the authorities by promulgating the ordinance had violated the apex court’s orders. It added the ordinance was un-Islamic and mala-fide. The counsel submitted that the ordinance was not in any case in public interest.

The petitioner prayed to the court that the Punjab governor might be restrained from approving the ordinances. It said the Punjab Assembly was the right forum to discuss such matters in open house and exercise the jurisdiction.

DISMISSED: The LHC dismissed for non-prosecution a contempt petition against Nazim Mian Amer Mehmood.

The petition was filed by Jawad Haider submitting that he had a dispute with Abu Bakar over the ownership of an 18 marla house in Garden Town. He stated a civil court had granted stay and directed BoR to settle the dispute, but the respondents under the supervision of district Nazim had demolished his house.
