HARIPUR, Jan 25: Cracks within the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians are widening in the wake of the appointment of Dr Faiza Rasheed as district president. Raja Yasir Ayaz Kiyani, advocate general secretary of People’s Lawyers Forum, said this while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.
Dr Faiza has recently replaced an old PPP worker, Haji Tahir Qureshi, who has contested on party ticket thrice from PF 50 and NA 19.
Mr Kiani said that since Dr Faiza had recently joined the party, she was not eligible for a leading position.
“For becoming a party office-bearer, one must have served the party for at least three years as an ordinary member, and Dr Faiza does not fulfil that condition. Therefore, her elevation is against the party constitution,” he said.
He said a majority of partymen were annoyed by her elevation which could lead to disintegration.
“Such disagreements at a time when the general election is not far away may cause an irreparable harm to the party,” he said and demanded of the party chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, to intervene and settle the issue.
