Demo against TMA office shifting

Published January 26, 2007

BUNER, Jan 25: Public representatives belonging to the union councils of tehsil Swari held a demonstration here on Thursday in protest against the shifting of Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) office to Gagra.

Carrying placards and raising slogans against the decision, the demonstrators – including nazims, naib nazims and councillors – marched towards the Swari chowk and blocked the main road.

Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Khan and Shujaat Ali Khan, nazims of UC Nauraiz and UC Rega respectively, said the decision had been taken by a local MPA.

It would affect commercial activities in Swari and benefit the village to which the MPA belonged, they added.

They urged the government to withdraw the decision otherwise similar demonstrations would be held at the union council level.

They said they would expose the officials who were bent upon abusing the power to their advantage.
