HYDERABAD, Jan 25: A large number of poets, writers and intellectuals attended funeral rites of poet Ahsanul Hashmi in Abbasabad graveyard in Shah Bukhari deh on Thursday.

Mr Hashmi died here on Wednesday. He was 83.

Named Hassan shah, he was born in Mir Noor Mohammad colony, Latifabad-4, on September 23, 1923. Mr Hashmi was considered one of the lyrical poets of Sindh. He had started writing poetry under the guidance of Makhdoom Mohammad Zaman Talibul Maula.

A collection of his poems "Neth Sehr Theendi", compiled by Taj Joyo, is in the process of publication. Late Hashmi had also remained a Salar of the Muslim League National Guard for some time.
