KARACHI: Security steps taken for Muharram

KARACHI, Jan 25: Following the instructions of Inspector-General Jehangir Mirza, security plans have been prepared and implemented by each and every town in Capital City Police Karachi and districts of Hyderabad and Sukkur regions.According to a press release issued here on Thursday, conciliatory meetings have been held at the Central Police Office here and at district level with ulema/religious leaders from both sects for promoting amity during Muharram.

It said police had also ensured enhanced security for Majalis and processions from the first of Muharram, besides providing blanket security at mosques/Imambargahs and other identified places. The provincial police chief reviewed the implementation of the security plan and asked the police to remain alert and adoptsecurity measures during the upcoming Muharram days.

He directed the CCPO, Karachi, the RPOs of Sukkur and Hyderabad, DIGs, DPOs and TPOs to personally monitor the law and order situation and ensure a peaceful environment on all Muharram routes through proper coordination with other law-enforcement agencies.

The press release said that in this regard a central control room had also been set up at the CPO, functioning round the clock since the first of Muharram.

It said that the staff deputed at central control room had been directed to collect hourly information from all over Sindh about the law and order situation, Muharram Majalis, processions, etc, in different areas of each town and district, besides, conveying orders of superior officers to field/operational officers and follow-up instruction to obtain proper implementation.
