KARACHI, Jan 25: A workshop on advanced cardiac life support was held for senior doctors at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Thursday in collaboration with the Professional Development Centre of the Dow University of Health Sciences.

Dr Ghani Loya, an instructor at the American Heart Association and the honorary faculty member of the DUHS, conducted the workshop. He noted that heart diseases were the leading cause of death across the world. About one third of heart patients die instantly or within first hour after suffering a stroke.

The DUHS vice-chancellor of , Prof Masood Hameed Khan, distributed certificates and shields among the participants, and said that similar workshops would be held in other health care institutions.

ASH Medical Superintendent Dr Masroor said that more such workshops for this hospital’s staff would be arranged to train them in cardiac life support.
