IPI partners hold talks on gas price

TEHRAN, Jan 24: The fourth meeting of the Working Group on Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) Gas Pipeline project began discussions on the gas pricing mechanism here on Wednesday.

Special representative of the Iranian Minister for Petroleum, Dr Ghanimi Fard, the Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Petroleum, Ahmad Waqar, and the Additional Secretary of Indian Ministry of Petroleum, Anil Razdan, are leading their delegations at the two-day round of talks.

In his welcome address, Dr Ghanimi Fard said that Iran had the largest gas reserves in South Asia and was looking forward to meeting the energy requirements of Pakistan and India through the IPI gas project. He hoped that the working group meeting would finalise the gas pricing mechanism.

Mr Ahmad Waqar said that Pakistan was actively pursuing and was committed to the project. It was keen to implement it as quickly as possible.

The head of the Indian delegation, Anil Razdan, endorsed the viewpoint of the Pakistani side on the gas pricing issue so that the buyers could purchase it on affordable prices.—PPI
