LAHORE, Jan 24: Fine batting by Fahad Iqbal, Sarfraz Ahmed and Akbar Rehman helped Karachi Harbour reach a commendable 282 for five against Lahore Shalimar on the first day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League fixture at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Wednesday.
Karachi Harbour, who were put into bat, were struggling at 155 for five, before Fahad (71 off 187 balls, 10 fours) and wicket-keeper/batsman Sarfraz (69 off 105 balls, seven fours and one six) came to their rescue with an unbroken stand worth 127 runs so far.
Akbar had earlier hit 53 in an 89-ball knock including 10 boundaries while putting on 54 for the fourth-wicket with skipper Naumanullah. Akbar then added 55 for the next wicket with Fahad before he fell to paceman Jamshed Ahmed.
Jamshed also dismissed opener Ariz Kamal for 18 after fellow left-arm pacer Mohammad Khalil made the initial breakthrough by getting rid of Khalid Latif for five.
In fact, these two shared all wickets to fall. Jamshed has so far picked up three for 55 and Khalil took two for 53) while Lahore Shalimar skipper Salman Butt tried as many as seven bowlers.
