Oriental Affair wins feature event at LRC
LAHORE, Jan 24: Oriental Affair ran superbly to win the feature event, the Khairpur Plate, class five division 1 and 11 combined handicap race, which was run over 900 metres during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana Meeting at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The three-year-old filly opened her turf account triumphantly in the very first outing. She defeated a seasoned mare, Dream Come True by two lengths. Beautiful Baby finished third while half-money favourite Moon Dazzler completed the frame among eight starters. The filly's victory came as a big consolation for owner Syed Pervez Shah, who had a very bad day when in earlier races his three fillies, Tosca, Mama Mia and Armida were beaten in the second, third and fourth event, respectively.
Riding boys Khalil Vicky and Pervez Bhatti shared the day's riding honours, each bringing home a double. Khalil partnered Sir Ivanhoe and Oriental Affair to share the double with trainer Sohail Aziz. Pervez rode home Rana Choice and Blue Fire in the third and fourth race.
The half-money favourite dark-bay mare, Mosaic ridden by apprentice Saif-ur-Rehman was the best performer of the day. She beat bay mare Scented Dust by a distance. This an event in which the horses of the LRC Riding School are only eligible to take part. Punters and turf accountants shared the proceedings on equal terms when three favourites won in a card of six races.
