KARACHI: 3 talukas get Rs514m for infrastructure

KARACHI, Jan 24: Sindh Local Government Minister Mohammed Hussain has said that the taluka municipal administrations of Sukkur, Nawabshah and Mirpurkhas will be provided a grant of Rs514.51 million for improvement of infrastructure.

Presiding over a meeting of nazims and naib nazims of three TMAs at his office on Tuesday, the minister said the Sukkur TMA would be given Rs200.87 million, Mirpurkhas Rs196.540 million and Nawabshah town municipal administration would be given Rs176.1 million for providing infrastructure facilities.

On complaints of staff shortage, Mr Hussain directed the TMAs to appoint staff and sanitary workers on contract basis to ensure cleanliness until they get the staff on permanent basis.

Keeping in view their development requirements, he said the taluka administrations should generate their own resources. In this regard, he asked the nazims and naib nazims of the TMAs to prepare comprehensive Master Plan to have precise data on priority sectors for development projects.

Appreciating the TMAs work, the minister emphasised that there was always room for improvement and called for ensuring quality in all the development projects besides their completion on time.

Highlighting the role of union councils in local bodies system, he said these should be involved in the implementation of any policy or development project. There active participation would not only ensure quality of work but also result in timely completion of development schemes, he added.

Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jameel, who was also present on the occasion, appreciated the interest of provincial minister in the solution of problems being confronted by TMAs and district governments.—APP
