Women tennis next month

KARACHI, Jan 23: All Pakistan women's tennis championship will be held next month at the City Sports Complex, Shahida Farooq, a member of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) executive committee said on Tuesday.

“We are planning to invite universities, colleges and schools to send their players for the Rs100,000 event,” Ms Farooq said.

She added that the event would be a good build-up for upcoming National Games in March.

“A tennis academy will also be set up at the sports complex to train and coach promising boys and girls,” she maintained.

Shahida said Karachi would stage International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior events in April besides National hard court tennis championship.

The PTF committee member expressed dismay at shifting national trials to Islamabad.

“Karachi would have been the best place to hold the trials due to similar climate like that to Manila, where the Davis Cup will be staged,” she pointed out.—APP
