KARACHI: Ulema urged to help maintain peace

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 23: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad has appealed to Ulema of different schools of thought that while paying tributes to martyrs of Karbala they must refrain from hurting feelings of any section of society.

The governor, who was presiding over a high-level meeting with reference to Muharram, said it was a joint responsibility of Muslim Ummah to create positive and universal impact of Islam within and outside the country and convey to the humanity at large the message of fraternity, love, peace, tranquillity and respect for humanity.

The religious scholars vowed they would play their role in maintaining peace.

Pointing out the dire need of unity among Muslim Ummah, Ishratul Ibad said no Islamic society could flourish and prosper until there was an atmosphere of cohesion and inter-faith understanding and peace maintained. Dr Ibad asked Ulema to play their role of guiding people on the path of peace, farsightedness and tolerance.

The governor asked the religious scholars to create an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity so that there was no need for the administration to take action to streamline the complicated situation.

He said religious occasions were not only a testing point for the government but also for Ulema, who should extend cooperation in maintaining law and order.
