LAHORE, Jan 22: The Senate Standing Committee on Sports has asked the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) to provide the copies of the national sports policies, audited statement of the PST's accounts and details regarding those presidents, secretaries and treasurers of the national sports federation who have completed two terms of four years each.
Enver Beg, an active member of the Senate Committee, asked for all the documents to be furnished during a grilling session with POA president Lt. Gen. (retd.) Arif Hasan (who is also chairman PST) over Pakistan’s worst ever show in the 15th Asian Games held in Doha, Qatar last month.
Enver told Dawn from Islamabad that Arif Hasan presented the accounts of the PST in the meeting but they were found insufficient and lacked the necessary details.
According to the details provided by the PST, “an amount of Rs 143,257,500 was generated from Hero Card scheme of which Rs 11,980,822 is from the allocation of sales proceeds based on actual sales while Rs 131,276,678 correspond to deposits and advances provided by the operator as per the terms of agreement. A bank balance of Rs 4,475,113 is shown as on Dec 31, 2006.”
Enver said only the audited report would clear all the expenditures. He said the POA and the PST officials would be summoned again next month.
