LAHORE, Jan 22: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has announced the schedule of its mass contact campaign starting on Tuesday (today). According to the schedule, Maulana Fazlur Rahman will address a public gathering in Kohat on Tuesday and a JUI-F workers convention on Jan 25 at Dera Ismail Khan. A caravan is scheduled to originate from Multan on Feb 13. The MMA leaders would pay a visit to Balochistan on Jan 27.
JUI-F information secretary Maulana Amjad Khan said at a press conference here on Monday that the meeting of party’s central committee had been summoned in Karachi on Feb 4, which would mull over the socio-political scenario prevailing in the country and approve a strategy for the mass-contact campaign.
He said the MMA had decided not to resign from the assemblies.
However, if President Musharraf decided to go for a re-election, the strategy for en masse resignations would be considered seriously.
He said the JUI-F and other parties were against resignations at this stage, “since our strategy is to prepare for the bigger challenge of general elections instead”.
He said a meeting of MMA would be held after Muharram, and its president Qazi Husain Ahmad and secretary-general Maulana Fazlur Rahman would attend it.
Maulana Amjad said the JUI-F would participate in the forthcoming elections on all national and provincial seats. He urged the opposition to put up a united political front against the government.
He clarified the fact that there had been no decision about any political alliance with the PTI, however, a joint struggle was definitely in the offing.
He said differences within the MMA were minor and would end soon.— Online
