ISLAMABAD, Jan 22: The National Assembly’s ‘House and Library Committee’ that met at the Parliament House, on Monday, directed the police department to tighten security and increase the number of policemen at the Parliament Lodges in the backdrop of growing incidents of break-ins into parliamentarians’ apartments.

The committee met under the chairmanship of deputy speaker fo the National Assembly, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob. The Islamabad IG Police briefed the committee on the security arrangements at the Parliament Lodges and the Parliament House.

MNA Gul-i-Farkhanda apprised the committee about an incident that had occurred in her room at the Parliament Lodges recently.

The committee expressed “deep concern” over it and also condemned another incident that had taken place at MNA Manzoor Wasan’s apartment at the Parliament Lodges.

The committee also directed the police to investigate both cases thoroughly and submit their report to the committee. It also asked the IG Police to make special security arrangements in the women’s blocks at the Lodges.

The committee directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and security agencies to issue security cards to all those living and working at the Parliament Lodges to ensure that only authorised persons entered the premises.
