HYDERABAD: UK investors will visit Hyderabad, envoy tells nazim

HYDERABAD, Jan 22: UK Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad Simon Butt has told District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil that representatives of some British companies will soon visit the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mr Butt, accompanied by another official of the UK mission, Ron Rimmer, was talking to the nazim at his office during his visit to the city and also to the Sindh University and Institute of Sindhology in neighbouring Jamshoro on Monday.
Mr Butt said that due to its peaceful atmosphere, the city and its suburbs were an ideal place for investment. He evinced interest in the local textile and bangle industry and said that opportunities existed for investment in the sectors.
The nazim informed Mr Butt that Hyderabad airport was being improved and a five-star hotel was going be constructed in the city and that both the developments would help promote industrial and commercial activities in the area.
Mr Jamil told the UK diplomats that the government had allocated 500 acres of additional land for the local industrial area where a large number of industrial units were being set up.
He said that due to the efforts made by the district government with the cooperation of the Higher Education Commission, a foreign university had been approved for Hyderabad.
He said that water supply, sewerage system and infrastructure were being improved in the city which would become a modern city after completion of the development schemes.
The convenor of the Hyderabad district council, Zafar Rajput, invited the British delegation to attend a council session which they accepted.
LECTURE: During the UK delegation’s visit to the Sindh University, Mr Butt delivered a lecture on UK-Pakistan relations at the auditorium of Allama I. I. Kazi Library.
He highlighted the benefits of people-to-people contacts and traditional linkages between Pakistan and the UK and talked about UK government contribution to Pakistan’s education sector.
He said that Pakistan and UK had been working jointly on global challenges, economic growth and sustainable development and against terrorism.
The UK delegation also visited the research library, different galleries and museum of Institute of Sindhology. They appreciated efforts made by the institute for promotion of Sindhi culture and literature.
