KARACHI: Towns take measures to improve civic facilities


KARACHI, Jan 22: In order to maintain cleanliness and ensure provision of other civic facilities to participants of mourning procession and Majalis in Muharram, various town administrations initiated arrangements in their respective areas on Monday.

Malir Town Nazim Ansar Ahmed Shaikh paid a detailed visit to different areas of the town including Kala Board, Muhammadi Dera, Saudabad, Jaffar Tayyar, Jinnah Square, Khokhrapar and Liaquat Market and inspected functioning of street lights, sewerage and water lines.

He issued directives to XEN Sewerage Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh to immediately address complaints regarding choking of sewerage lines. He also directed XEN Water to ensure uninterrupted flow of water supply during Muharram days and redressing complaints of water lines’ leakage. He asked DTO M&A to replace out-of-order streetlights along all major roads and streets leading to Imambargahs on urgent basis.

He warned concerned officials of his town that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard and departmental action would also be taken against those found negligent.

Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Nazim Muhammad Wasay Jalil along with Naib Town Nazim Shoaib Akhtar visited various Imambargahs including Sahibuz-Zaman, Madinatul Ilm, as well as those located in Abbas Town, Ayub Goth and Sachal Goth and inspected cleanliness measures taken by the town administration.

He directed KWSB officials to solve water leakage problem so that people did not face hardships during Muharram. He also directed to take especial cleanliness arrangements and ensure provision of streetlights along roads and streets leading to Imambargahs and mosques. TO Mubin Siddiqui, SA KWSB Zaheer Abbas and DTO Nisar Soomro accompanied the nazim.

Orangi Town Nazim Abdul Haq inspected cleanliness around all major mosques and Imambarghas of the town. He said the town administration was busy solving problems of the masses including carpeting of roads leading to Imambargahs, provision of streetlights, proper drainage and water supply. Town Naib Nazim Shahid Baseer, TMO Qamar Shaikh and other official concerned were also present.

Korangi Town Nazim Muhammad Arif Khan directed concerned authorities to resolve complaints regarding non-functioning of streetlights and cleanliness on urgent basis so that citizens could be facilitated during Muharram days. Town Naib Nazim Muhammad Asghar Qureshi, TMO Dr Mukhtar A Palejo, TO (Infrastructure) Muhammad Sami were also present.

Shah Faisal Town Nazim Mohammed Imran declared all routes of Muharram procession as no parking zone and directed the town regulation department to ensure strict enforcement of ban on parking.

He called for adopting all possible steps for keeping the procession routes clean and said all encroachments on roads and footpaths be removed while lime and insecticides be sprayed around mosques and Imambargahs.

On his directive, the cleaning and carpeting of Muharram procession routes was immediately started. It was said that the work would complete in the next 24 hours.

The town nazim appealed to people to avoid parking vehicles on prescribed routes to facilitate movement of processions without any hindrance. —PPI/APP
