Senior journalist Shamim Shamsi dead

KARACHI/SUKKUR, Jan 21: Senior journalist Shamim Shamsi, Dawn’s Sukkur Correspondent, died in a hospital in Karachi on Sunday after a severe asthma attack. He was 64.

Mr Shamsi, who joined Dawn in 1971, was widely respected for his commitment to the profession. He highlighted burning issues of Sindh and problems of the people of Sukkur.

Mr Shamsi was a chronic asthma patient. He was admitted to a hospital in Sukkur a few days ago and later he was moved to a hospital in Karachi.

His body is being taken to Sukkur where funeral prayers will be held at the Jama Masjid Sukkur after Zohr prayers on Monday. He will be buried at the Nawa Goth Graveyard.

Mr Shamsi received his early education in Sukkur and did his masters from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter, in addition to his brothers and sisters and scores of admirers, to mourn his death.
