Birth control awareness stressed

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 21: Federal Minister for Population Welfare Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain said his ministry was vigorously undertaking the projects of advocacy and training to create awareness among the masses of population control initiatives.

Speaking at an advocacy seminar on population welfare at Rohtas Fort, Jhelum, he said print and electronic media was also being involved in this campaign.

According to a press release, the minister said the government’s policy was not to force the people for birth control but to convince them to follow it by their own choice.

He said the increasing population was sapping the resources of the country, adding that to tackle this issue “we need to make concerted efforts by involving media personnel and the political leadership at grass-roots level.”

Representative of different newspapers and television channels also spoke at the seminar and put forward their suggestions and ideas to further improve the ministry’s campaign.
