Cash-rich POA unveils Rs10.9m budget for 2007-08

KARACHI, Jan 19: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) will disburse a sum of Rs1.35 million to its staffers in salaries during the year 2007-08. Approved by the general council at its meeting in Lahore on Dec 30, the amount is part of Rs10.9 million budget estimates.

Similarly, Rs1.65 million have been set aside for games, meetings, conferences, seminars, clinics etc while Rs0.5 million would be utilised under the head of ‘miscellaneous’.

Another Rs3 million will be incurred on NOC annual activity programme (2006).

Other estimated expenditures include Rs0.9 million (telephone, printing, stationary, postage, telex, fax, photographs, computers etc); Rs0.3 million (electricity, water and sui gas); Rs0.35 million (camp office Islamabad); Rs0.1 million (souvenirs, gifts etc); Rs0.3 million (local conveyance, audit fee, repair and maintenance of office equipments, vehicle running expenses, entertainment and newspapers); Rs0.2 million (membership fee to International organisations); Rs0.2 million (financial aid to affiliated federations, organisations and individual employees); Rs.0.3 million (meeting expenses); Rs0.15 million (travelling expenses); Rs1.2 million (IOC technical courses for coaches) and Rs0.24 million (IOC sports administration courses).

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) grant of US$50,000 to POA tops the estimated receipt for the year.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will provide grant-in-aid of US$ 25,000 while another US$ 20,000 will come for two IOC technical courses for coaches and technical officials.

The POA will get another amount of US$ 2500 for Olympic Day Run 2006. Similarly, IOC will provide finance of US$ 4000 for two IOC sports administration courses. US$ 12,500 are shown under the head of Top VI Programme.

Rs4,019,000 comes under anticipated donations and sponsorships from IOC, OCA, CGF, Pakistan and savings, Rs41,000 membership fee from affiliated federations/organisations, Rs10,000 profit on investment and Rs5,000 unclassified receipts.
