Opposition united on re-election, says Fahim

By Our Correspondent

NAWABSHAH, Jan 18: Chairman of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy, ARD, and President of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, PPP, Makhdoom Amin Faheem, has said that opposition is united on the issue of re-election of the president by the present assemblies.

Talking to newsmen after attending a tea party hosted in his honour by Umed Ali Rajpar in his village near Bandhi on Thursday afternoon, he said that the joint opposition will resign from senate, national and all four provincial assemblies in case the president tried his re-election through the current assemblies.

He said that another grand alliance was not required as there were already many alliances like ARD, MMA and PONM.

He further said that Pakistan People’s Party was the most powerful political party with strong roots in masses which would participate in the forthcoming general elections.

To a question, he said that PML (N) has also not yet decided to boycott the elections and a decision would be taken after consultation with the opposition parties.

Answering another question, he said that rumours were being spread regarding PPP’s deal with the government just to divide the opposition.

He denied any talks or negotiations between PPP and General Musharraf.
