KARACHI: Qatar-based firm keen to build 7-star hotels

KARACHI, Jan 18: The city government is offering attractive incentives to foreign investors and paying due attention to the public/private partnership to encourage projects like seven-star hotels, restaurants, etc to be built along the city’s coastline. Besides, it would welcome the prominent international fast-food/shops chains, establishment of food streets.
This was stated by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal while chairing a meeting here on Thursday. EDO Enterprises and Investment Promotion Hassan Naqvi gave a detailed briefing about the ongoing projects and those in the pipeline.
The nazim informed the meeting that a Qatar-based firm had expressed its interest in establishing seven-star hotels in the city which involved about $2 billion investment. He asked the E&IP Department to identify suitable locations in consultation with the Land Department. He also called for the setting up of an independent department with a task of extending all required facilities to investors right from their arrival in the city to the completion of their projects.
Referring to the huge investment made for developing Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim into a most modern park of the country, the nazim underlined the need for making the project a profitable venture. In this regard, he stressed on a comprehensive planning under which reputable firms should be invited to set up fast-food outlets and operate boating and other services for public entertainment.
He also called for proper publicity of the project through advertisements.
RARE MAPS: Adviser to the CM on Information and Archives Salahuddin Haider on Thursday presented a book of rare maps of Karachi to Naib City Nazim Nasreen Jalil.
He called on her at the old KMC Building and presented a copy of the book published by the provincial archives department.
The advisor also gave her a list of 500 books on history, culture, education, architecture, environment, trade, industry and other subjects with reference to Karachi. The list has been compiled by the archives department.
