Factory owners booked

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 17: The City District Government on Wednesday lodged an FIR against owners of a garment factory for misguiding fire department officials in a bid to save their goods just before the factory’s roof collapsed because of a fire in the Site area.

According to a statement issued by the CDGK, the FIR had been lodged at the Site police station by the caretaker chief fire officer, Ahtishamuddin, against the owners, Ibrahim and Farooq Ahmed.

According to the FIR, officials of the Fire Brigade Department had rushed to the garment factory and started extinguishing the fire.

“The building of Cotton Factory (had collapsed because it) had been constructed on weak foundations and the owners of the factory (had) misguided the fire department officials about the presence of labourers inside the building but there was no worker inside the building. The Fire Brigade Department officials, on the wrong information provided by the (factory) owners, rushed inside the building to save the labourers’ lives” just before the whole building caved in because of the intense blaze in cotton bales.
