KARACHI, Jan 17: Five-year-old bay mare Makina who was beaten by filly Abhi Abhi in the ‘Horse of the Year’ cup 2006 on Jan 7 should start clear favourite to win feature event when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Thursday.

Winner of the Mile Championship and Emirates Farm Trophy last year she is drawn in a field of six runners and in all probability should finish ahead of opponents in the six furlongs event which is also the opening race.Her likely challengers are King Of Sanghar and Moon Raker.

A card of 10 races including two cups has been drawn for the day. The first race begins at 12noon.

The race has been brought forward to avoid its clash with the advent of Muharram.

Sweet Sindhri, 10-year-old dark bay mare, who failed to finish on the board in the last meeting due to a late start is tipped to make amends by picking up the Golden Stakes Cup div V-B going over four furlongs. She should be chased by Flying Prince and Shah Sawar.

Seven-year-old bay mare, Lucky Girl, who was edged out by mare Lucky Legs by three lengths should sprint to victory in the similar cup in div V-A.

King Of The Ring and Lucky View should battle it out for the places.

Promoted to next class after last week’s triumph, five-year-old Tharkyee is fancied to make it two-in-a-row by topping the field. Mida’s Touch and Patricia look good among others for places.

Mare Sonu Love Mani is likely to atone to last week loss by galloping to victory in a strong field of 18 contestants. She was unsuccessful to complete hat trick last Sunday losing to Tharkyee by Head.

Filly Sweet Smile and mare Mixed Blessing should win honours in their races by overcoming the rivals so did Daruwala, Fair Boy and Foolish Pleasure.

Daruwala and Fair Boy settled for second in their last run while Foolish Pleasure had to be content with third slot on Jan 7.
