PESHAWAR, Jan 17: The NWFP Chief Minister, Akram Khan Durrani, has warned law enforcing agencies against demonstrating lethargy during Muharram because, according to him, it was the prime responsibility of the government to protect the life and property of citizens.
The CM issued the warning at a meeting held to review the law and order situation which was held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Wednesday. According to a handout, the government has taken measures to prevent any untoward incident during the holy month.
The meeting was attended by the chief secretary, home secretary, IGP, senior officials of the Frontier Corps and DIGs of different districts. Mr Durrani was briefed on the security steps being taken by the police, particularly in the sensitive areas.
The government, he said, was taking unprecedented measures to maintain peace during Muharram. Mr Durrani added that he was in close contact with the scholars of different schools of thought and social workers over their efforts to maintain peace.
