KARACHI, Jan17: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman on Wednesday directed officials concerned to take steps against rise in fees of private schools and improve the traffic system in Karachi.

The chief secretary issued these directives here while taking notice of the public complaints and news reports. He expressed concern over the rising trend of fees in private schools and acts of compelling parents to purchase related educational goods, including books and uniforms, from shops recommended by these private schools.

The chief secretary ordered the education secretary to take steps against these irregularities being committed in private schools and submit a report in this regard within 15 days.

He said the rising fees were a big burden on parents and bounding them to purchase books and uniforms from favoured shops was an illegal and immoral act.

The chief secretary also took notice of the persistent traffic jams on roads leading to educational institutions and causing problems to the students. He directed the traffic police department to take steps for averting traffic jams to help students and parents. He also sought a report in this connection within a week.

The chief secretary also directed the DIG for traffic to improve the traffic system in the city so the waste of fuel and torments to the citizens during traffic jams could be averted.—PPI
