Senate Committee to convene on Jan 22nd

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Jan 15: An important meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports to discuss the poor performance of the Pakistan contingent in the 15th Asian Games will be held at Islamabad on Jan 22.

According to the agenda, President Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Arif Hasan and chef-de-mission of Pakistan contingent for the 15th Asian Games, will present their report on Pakistan’s dismal performance in the continental games. Surprisingly, Pakistan's performance was far poorer than that of the last edition of the games held in Busan.

The pathetic display at Doha was extremely surprising keeping in view the fact that the government has almost doubled the annual budget of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) from Rs60 million.

In addition to that the newly constituted Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) also pumped in around Rs20 million on the preparations of the contingent.

Besides the Asian Games, the meeting will also discuss matters related to the M/O Sports/PSB and PST/POA, including details of PST's budget its use and utilisation of funds raised through Hero Card Scheme.

The meeting is to start from 10am but in case of a Senate session in the morning it will be held in the afternoon, the same day.

Zafar Iqbal Chaudhary will chair the meeting. Earlier, the meeting was to be held on Jan 12, but was postponed at the request of the POA president.
