KARACHI: Slow pace of work irks citizens

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 15: Work on the main artery of Lyari Town is progressing at a very slow pace hindering flow of traffic. Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Road previously known as Atmaram Pretum Das Road is a link road connecting the Lyari Town with Site and Saddar towns.

Due to the negligence of civic agencies the road is in a poor shape for the past few years and has developed cracks and potholes causing massive traffic particularly at the Moosa Lane section where digging work for lying new water lines is in progress for the past few weeks at a slow pace.

This 10km long vital artery has no footpaths at many of its portions creating problems for pedestrians, particularly women and children.

At most of the places, vendors, auto rickshaw workshops have encroached footpaths leaving no space for pedestrians to walk.

The members of Baghdadi Mohalla committee drew the attention of civic authorities towards the deteriorating conditions of the Moosa Lane portion and called for early completion of the ongoing uplift work.

They said the main drain dug by the KWSB authorities in 2001 between Lucky Arcade Moosa Lane to Jan Bhai Maternity Home had been left unattended till date.
