KARACHI, Jan 14: In the absence of favourite Terrorist, four-year-old dark bay filly Stormy Kiss posted a facile 12-length victory over colt Moon Raker to win feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Not backed by his connection in the last meeting, Terrorist was withdrawn before the race leaving five contenders to battle it out for honours.

Saddled by Champion Trainer of the Year 2006, Mushtaq Ali Khan, the filly who became odds on favourite was ridden home by Ghulam Shabbir II in a start to finish bid. It is owned by Haji Khuda Bux Rajar.

Mare Voo Doo Doll finished five-and-a-half lengths away to secured third position while mare Fantasia completed the frame.

Jockey Shabbir completed his double when he presented Syed Ismail Shah with a winner by piloting bay mare Ouija Board to a seven-length victory over Harry Potter.

Terrorist’s stable mate Butter Fly and Tharkyee did owner Pir Pagara proud by sprinting to glory.

Following three dismal runs, mare Butter Fly made amends when she edged out colt The Concord by five-and-a-half lengths to claim the opener. Rider M. Nasir allegedly indulged in foul play by not allowing public fancy three-year-old bay colt, Inside Story, to run on merit. To the surprise of punters, he was spared by the Racing Committee.

Second favourite Tharkyee made it two-in-a-row when he beat favourite mare Sonu Love Mani by head in a closely fought race denying the latter to complete hat-trick. The brace of winners — Butter Fly and Tharkyee — were sent by Mumtaz Ali.

Owner Adnan Azam Khan was jubilant on the victory of Lucky Friend and Lucky Legs. With Sohail Ahmed aboard, Lucky Friend got the better of Khas-ul-Khas by 12 lengths as favourite mare Forget Me Not failed to finish on the board.

Similarly, with Nasim Ahmed astride, Lucky Legs picked up spoils in the last race beating her stable mate Lucky Girl by three lengths. Both the horses were saddled by Hussain.

With no form worth, four-year-old bay colt, Shah Pasand, backed by his connection, created a stir when he outpaced Daruwala by four lengths while rank outsider Birj-ul-Arab, upset Fair Boy to win the other race.
