SIALKOT, Jan 14: Robbers shot dead a moviemaker and injured two youths accompanying him at Wadala Sindhuaan village in Daska tehsil late Saturday night.
Reports said Jamil and Samiullah, residents of Sambrial, were taking moviemaker Arif Aslam to shoot a wedding ceremony of their relative at Wadala Sindhuaan village when a gang halted the motorcycle. No sooner had the robbers demanded belongings, the motorcyclists tried to speed away and the gangsters took no time in pushing the triggers, killing Arif who was almost clung to the edge of the seat.
The other two motorcyclists suffered grievous injuries and were taken to a Lahore hospital in critical condition.
The Satrah police registered a case but failed to make any arrest.
The villagers later took to the street and protested against the police’s failure to control lawlessness, demanding that the robbers should immediately be arrested.
Meanwhile, robbers plundered cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in many strikes during the last 48 hours.
Different gangs of robbers took away cash and jewellery worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from the shops of Shabbir Ahmad Toor, Muhammad Yaseen and Muhammad Asif in Anarkali Bazaar.
In Daska city, Shahbaz Bhatti stole Rs15,000 in cash from the shop of Taseer Ahmad.
Robbers bagged Rs400,000 in cash from an oil mills and in another incident, almost same amount was snatched from a local trader who was on his way to his factory after drawing the money from a bank.
At Jaamkey Cheema village (Daska tehsil), four armed men looted 3,000 Saudi Riyals, gold ornaments, electronics and other valuables worth Rs150,000 from landlord Ghulam Hyder Ansari’s house.
At Kotli Noona village (Sambrial), robbers drove away with a van (LHO-449) of Muhammad Shakil.
