VEHARI, Jan 14: Eight people died and six others were hospitalised on Sunday after taking toxic liquor in various parts of Dunyapur, Lodhran. The dead were aged 25 to 30.

Jalla Arain police station’s inspector Muhammad Sadiq said that eight people had died due to toxic liquor in Gharibabad, Dunyapur. Six died before any first aid. Sadqi said a majority of the deceased were oil tanker drivers coming from Multan. During their stay in hotels of Dunyapur, they consumed liquor and died.

The deceased were identified as Mukhtar Hussain, Sajjad Hussain, Habib Ahmed, Abbas Qasai, Allah Nawaz Khokhar and Muhammad Sajjad. Two bodies had yet to be identified.

Six bodies were taken to Makhdom Aali hospital, where four were handed over to their heirs after an autopsy. Two bodies were still lying in the hospital. Sources said besides these dead, many people affected by the liqueur were being treated in various hospitals and private clinics. People say that truck drivers supply toxic liquor in the areas in connivance with police. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
