KARACHI, Jan 14: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Mohammad Ali Durrani has said that the forthcoming general elections will bring in such a political stability in the country that will never let democracy derail.

He reiterated that the elections would be held within the stipulated time and the present coalition would contest the polls from a single platform. There would be a consensus candidate from the coalition for every constituency, he added.

The minister was talking to journalists after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi here on Sunday.

Mr Durrani predicted that as a result of the upcoming elections, a more stable government would come into power and would be able to make Pakistan a developed country.

Asked about the third term for the prime minister, he replied that everyone would have to remain within the constitutional limits, and that no one should think beyond the constitution.

He said the winning party would take the decision regarding the next prime minister. He said achievements by the present coalition were results of the concerted efforts it had made. “On the basis of this very performance, we will contest the election,” he added.

Responding to another question, he said that nothing would come out of the opposition’s APC as nothing had come out of the APC in the past as well. “No serious person will participate in it… this is a non-issue,” he remarked.

The minister said that what was most important was the people’s decision, adding that people wanted peace, tranquillity, development and continuity of policies.
