Sami powers KGS to victory: Inter-school basketball

KARACHI, Jan 13: Abdus Sami powered Karachi Grammar School to a nail-biting 42-41 victory over the City School Darakshan Campus to top group ‘C’ in the Inter-school basketball tournament at the KPT Sports Complex on Saturday.

Making good use of his skills, he amassed 26 points as his institution maintained a clean slate with three straight wins in the group.

Raja Jehanzeb proved equally good scoring 21 points for the losers. He was supported by Maaz Sultan (9) and Salim (8). Despite defeat, the losing side also qualified for last eight by finishing runners up in the group.

The Grammarians are due to take on the City School Gulshan Campus who routed Auctor’s Academy 40-4 in the one-sided match. Naved Arshad and Adeel Durrani scored nine points apiece. They were supported by Bilal (8) and Ahsan (8).

In yet another one-sided encounter, South Shore School taught a lesson to the City School North Nazimabad by handing 39-3 defeat to top group ‘A’. Jibran top scored with 16.

South Shore School are drawn to meet CAS School who inflicted 25-20 defeat on Beaconhouse Jubilee Campus. Dominic Flothow was the main architect with 17 to his credit. Shahzeb Anwar contributed 16 for losers.

The City School PAF Chapter continued their winning sequence when they overcame GBHS Mirpurkhas 39-21 to emerge group ‘D’ leaders. Muzammil (13) and Arsalan (10) were their main scorers. Haris scored 10 for out station team.

The winners now meet Falcon House School who got a walkover against Happy Home School.

The quarter-finals will be played after a day’s rest on Monday.

South Shore School v CAS School 10.30am; Shah Wilayat School v City School Darakshan Campus 11.30am; City School PAF Chapter v Falcon House School 12.30pm; Karachi Grammar School v City School Gulshan Campus 1.30pm.
