KARACHI, Jan 13: Responsible batting by Wajahatullah Wasti enabled Peshawar obtain a first-innings lead of 44 runs against Karachi Urban on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League match at the National Stadium here on Saturday.
Wajahat, the 32-year-old former Pakistan batsman who made six Test appearances, remained undefeated with a watchful 81 as the visitors were dismissed just before stumps for 260 in reply to Karachi Urban’s 214.
No less than 14 wickets fell on an eventful day. Left-arm paceman Waqar Ahmed captured all four wickets to fall after the home side resumed at 189 for six. Waqar’s spell of 4.1 overs this morning cost 10 runs as he finished with deserved figures of six for 60.
Imran Javed, 40 overnight, was out for 52, a 12-ball knock that contained six fours in a stay of 147 minutes.
Apart from Wajahat, who slammed 11 fours and a brace of sixes during his 158-ball innings in 208 minutes, opener Aftab Khan struck nine boundaries in making an 87-ball 53.
Off-spinner Tahir Khan was Karachi Urban’s best bowler with four for 78 while left-arm seamer Malik Aftab was impressive in picking up three for 37.
