Pervaiz visits aggrieved family

LAHORE, Jan 13: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Saturday visited the residence of slain additional advocate general Arif Bhinder. The chief minister who was accompanied by Law Minister Raja Basharat, IGP Ahmad Nasim and other senior officials offered fateha for the departed soul.

Talking to reporters, the chief minister announced Rs 1.5 million for the heirs of Arif Bhinder and Rs 500,000 for the heirs of his brother, Ferozewala TMO Kashif Bhinder.

He also announced Rs 500,000 each for the police officials killed in the line of duty. He announced promotion of constable Rafique to the rank of head constable for showing gallantry.

Earlier, he said investigation into the killing had been initiated on “scientific lines”. An expert police officer, Mr Ghulam Muhammad Kalyar, would submit the inquiry report within four days after completing the investigation.

The chief minister said special police teams had been constituted for immediate arrest of the culprits.

Elahi said a drive for the arrest of gangs involved in heinous crime had been geared up throughout the province. Those patronising criminals were equally responsible for the crime and therefore strict action was also being taken against them.

He directed police authorities to adopt all necessary measures to protect the brother and family of the late Bhinder.

RAJA: Law Minister Raja Basharat said that under the chief minister’s directions he would personally monitor investigation into the murder.

He was talking to Akbar Bhinder, the father of the murdered additional advocate general, as he went to attend Arif’s funeral on behalf of the provincial government.

The minister was accompanied by Law Secretary Sheikh Ahmad Farooq and Public Prosecution Secretary Shaigan Sharif Malik.

He expressed his grief over the murder of Bhinder and said he was a competent lawyer and his services would be remembered.

The minister said special instructions had been issued for the arrest of killers, hoping that they would soon face the law.
