Move to transfer QAU land opposed

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: The National Assembly standing committee on education on Saturday condemned the possibility of handing over the land of Quaid-i-Azam University to another government department.

The committee members at a meeting held with Begum Tehmina Dasti in the chair to discuss the performance of the QAU and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) said they would oppose the move and take it up at the lower house of parliament.

The chairperson of the committee said the land was allotted to the QAU so that it could meet the requirements of students in future. She said the university management was planning to expand the faculties and construct hostels to meet the requirements of students. The committee approved a resolution in this respect and decided to move it in the National Assembly.

Following approval of the resolution in the National Assembly, the government would be asked not to allot the land of the university to any other department.—Online
