KARACHI, Jan 13: There will be a complete ban on display of posters, banners, distribution of handbills, wall chalking and making speeches during Muharram that could hurt the sentiments of people hailing from any segment of society.

A decision to this effect was made at a meeting between Sindh Home Adviser Waseem Akhtar and religious scholars and leaders of different schools of thought held at Sindh Secretariat on Friday evening.

Assuring the ulema of every possible support on behalf of the government, the adviser asked them to immediately contact in case of any subversive activity at phone numbers 5242789- 5242877 or fax numbers 5342864 and 9204922.

Wasim Akhtar said foolproof security arrangements would be made at and around routes of mourning processions and aerial vigilance through helicopters would be ensured. Besides, he said, heavy deployment of police and Rangers would also be ensured. He urged Ulema to uphold code of ethics and cooperate with law enforcing agencies.—PPI
