KARACHI: Rs300 million for 50 Sindh colleges

KARACHI, Jan 13: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro on Saturday said that the provincial government had allocated Rs300 million for transforming 50 Sindh colleges into model colleges.

“Within next five years, all 238 colleges in Sindh would be upgraded and turned into model colleges” she said while speaking at a ceremony in the honour of 10 retired principals of Karachi region at Home Economics College.

She said owing to a ban on recruitment, colleges were facing shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff but added her department had sent a summary for appointment of 1,450 lecturers to Sindh chief minister for approval.

“As soon as the summary is approved, lecturers will be recruited through Sindh Public Service Commission to overcome shortage of teachers” she said adding that problems of educational institutions would be resolved on priority basis.

Provincial Education Manager, Sindh, Dr Mohammad Ali Shaikh said retired principals were the asset of the education department and the department would continue taking their advice for betterment of education.

Later, Dr Khuhro distributed shields among the 19 retired principals.—PPI
