SWS win group to qualify for quarter-finals

KARACHI, Jan 12: Shah Wilayat School outplayed Auctor’s Academy 29-4 in the last league match to emerge Group ‘B’ champions and ensure their berth in the quarter-finals of the Inter-school basketball tournament at the KPT Sports Complex on Friday.

They had beaten the City School Gulshan Campus and St Patrick’s in the earlier two games.

Johar Hasnain (10) and Asad Hussain (8) excelled for the winners.

The City School Darakshan Campus and Karachi Grammar School joined Shah Wilayat School in the last eight when they conjured up second successive victories in Group ‘C’.

Darakshan Campus, who whipped Aureol High School in the opening round, got the better of Foundation Public School 51-25 in a one-sided match. Raja Jehanzeb (13), Sameel Haider (12) and Maaz Sultan (10) shone for winners while Ehsan scored 12 for losers.

Similarly, Grammar School kept their winning record intact when they disposed off Aureol High School 42-8. Abdus Sami turned out to be principal scorer with 14. He was ably assisted by Ayaz Saeed and Ubaid Khan with nine apiece. Zeeshan scored five for losers. The Grammarians had won against Foundation Public School on Wednesday.

The top two places of the group, however, will be decided on Saturday when Darakshan Campus and Grammar meet each other in the last league match.

The City School PAF Chapter continued their winning spree when they carved out a 32-22 victory over CAS School to secure a berth in the knockout stage from Group ‘D’.

Muzammiluddin (12), Arsalan (9), and Ahmed (7) stole the limelight for winners. Dominic Flothow scored 11 for losers.

In the two other matches of the day, Falcon House School squeezed past the City School North Nazimabad Campus 38-7 with Rafay Arif scoring 14 and Mustafa Khan 8.

Feroz Ali (18) guided the City School Gulshan Campus to an emphatic 50-25 over St Patrick’s. Naveed contributed 10 in his team’s triumph. Akbar was the main scorer for losing team with 12 points.

City school Gulshan Campus v Auctor’s Academy 10.00am; City School Darakshan Campus v Karachi Grammar School 11.00am; South Shore School v City School North Nazimabad 12.00pm; CAS School v Beaconhouse Jubilee Campus 1pm; Falcon House School v Happy Home School 2.00pm; City School PAF Chapter v GBHS Mirpurkhas 2.00pm.
