HYDERABAD, Jan 12: Hyederabd Electric Supply Company (Hesco) Chief Executive Maqbool Ahmed Khwaja on Thursday directed the company to disconnect power supply on January 15 to all the government organisations, which had defaulted on payment of dues.

A Hesco spokesman said in a statement that the company in numerous meeting with the officials concerned of Sindh government had time and again asked them to clear their dues but they failed to take their pleas seriously.

Till November 2006, a staggering amount of Rs3.7634 billion was outstanding against different government organisations, he said and added that according to break-up, Sindh government owed Rs789.83 million, autonomous bodies Rs301.68, local bodies Rs401.05 million, district governments Rs328.13 million and taluka municipal administrations owed the company Rs1,942.77 million.

The outstanding bills running into billions of rupees had adversely affected the company’s financial position forcing it to get tough with defaulters, he said. The company would restore the connection only after the defaulters had paid their dues, he warned.
