KARACHI, Jan 12: Many areas of the metropolis remained without power for hours on Friday after a cable fault developed in the cables of power transformers at the Liaquatabad grid station.
The power supply to Liaquatabad, Nazimabad and parts of Federal B Area was suspended at around 2:15pm due the fault, suspending power supply from transformers to consumers, officials in the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation said.
“The fault has been detected and KESC engineers and staff have been working to restore the supply as soon as possible,” they said, adding that the situation would normalise hopefully sometime during the night.
However, citizens said they had lodged several complaints with the KESC complaint centres but did not receive a satisfactory reply to their queries about the breakdown.
They said that power supply was being suspended for several hours everyday during the winter season when the demand remained at the lowest side, and apprehended that the situation would turn worst in the coming summer if the government did not put a strict check on the working of the KESC.
Meanwhile, KESC officials have stated that they had to resort to load-shedding of 30-90 minute duration in various localities in view of the 150-250 MW shortfall in power generation.
They said that some generating units were still undergoing repairs while the demand had increased owing to an improvement in the weather conditions.
They said that the load-shedding would be discontinued after completion of the repair work at power generating units.
