PPP protests against arrests

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Jan 11: Leaders and activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians held a demonstration against the arrest of 147 activists in Jaffarabad, Dera Murad Jamali, Dera Allah Yar and Mastung areas.

They warned that if the detainees were not released in 24 hours then the party would block national highways and hold rallies.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club here on Thursday, the senior-vice president of the Balochistan chapter of the PPP, Jamal Khan Jogezai, said party flags had been removed from buildings and graffiti erased on the eve of Pakistan Muslim League chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s visit to Nasirabad district.

“Police baton-charged PPP workers and arrested more than 100 of them when they blocked the Jacobabad-Dera Allahyar road in protest against the removal of party flags,” he said.

He said several workers were also arrested in Mastung while processions had been taken out in Sibi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Hub, Loralai and Qila Saifullah.
