KARACHI: Cattle-pens add to insanitation

KARACHI, Jan 11: The growing number of cattle-pens in different parts of Orangi and Baldia towns is creating sewerage and sanitation problems. There are around 600 cattle- pens in Baldia Town, generating huge quantities of dung which is directly thrown into the sewerage lines choking drainage system.

An official of Baldia Town, when contacted, told that the administration was considering shifting cattle-pens outside the main population.

Similar is the situation in Orangi and Site towns. An official of Orangi Town told it was the duty of the CDGK to conduct surveys and allot a land for the purpose as the town was unable to do it with its limited resources.—A Reporter
