KARACHI: Speed-breakers destroy road in Saeedabad

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 11: Unauthorised speed-breakers has emerged at numerous places along main Saeedabad road in Baldia Town hindering smooth flow of traffic and annoying passengers and motorists.

The road, particularly its section between Sector 12/E and Mastana Chowk, is already in a dilapidated condition, the speed-breakers have added to road users’ miseries.

It has been observed that along a small stretch of road, i.e. between Sector 12/E and the Jungle School bus stop, there are at least 35 speed-breakers. Besides, this section of the road is riddled with potholes.

The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that senior citizens and people suffering from backache or

some other crippling diseases prefer not to pass through the road either on foot or on transport.

Dr Rashid Mirza, spokesman for the Baldia Town nazim when asked about the practice of raising unauthorised speed-breakers, told this reporter that people resort to such practices after a road accident at a particular place and this had resulted in the emergence of so many speed-breakers.

He said people should realise that in most cases, accidents occur due to negligence or rash driving on the part of drivers. He was of the view that most drivers would put the lives of their passengers at stake in their bid to meet the deadline for reaching their destination, fixed by their employers under the ‘token system’.

People having business concerns alongside this road argued that raising a speed-breaker to avoid accidents was the only option left to the area people as the law did not allow them to teach a lesson to negligent and errant drivers responsible for the mayhem they caused in accidents.
