High alert in India

NEW DELHI, Jan 10: India has sounded a nationwide alert for apossible hijack attempt at one of its main airports, TV news channels reported on Wednesday. The alert has come just days before Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee is due to visit Islamabad on Saturday and Sunday. Terrorism is one of the topics for discussion Mr Mukherjee is expected to take up with his Pakistani counterpart Khurhseed Mehmood Kasuri, particularly the beilateral mechanism to thwart it.

CNN-IBN news channel said airports had been put on high alert after an intelligence warning that terrorists might attempt to hijack aircraft or seize terminals. The intelligence warning comes after Bilal (one name), an alleged Kashmiri militant arrested by the Bangalore Police on Friday, said the Lashkar-i-Toiba planned to attack major airports.
