PESHAWAR, Jan 10: The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) will mobilise its resources to expedite the registration process of Afghan nationals in the NWFP.

A press release said that officials of Nadra, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees held a meeting here on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing registration in various parts of the province, including camps.

Nadra regional director Brig Khalid Pervez said that additional facilities would be provided at all registration centres to issue cards to the remaining Afghan refugees, who had participated in the previous census.

The three-month registration exercise would end on Jan 19. The government is issuing Proof of Registration (PoR) cards to validate stay of Afghan refugees for a period of three years.

UN officials said that over 1.4 million refugees had been issued registration cards in Pakistan.

They said that in the NWFP, 950,000 Afghans had obtained the cards from Nadra registration centres, adding that 15,000 to 20,000 Afghans were getting cards at the centres daily.
