Desert Queen and Blue Fire to vie for spoils today
LAHORE, Jan 9: A tricky card of six events awaits race-goers at the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
One event will be run over a sprinting distance of 800 metres, three over 900 and two over 1000. In all, 49 acceptors will be vying for the six contests barring last-minute withdrawals.
There are only seven acceptors for the sixth and feature event, the Sadiqabad Plate class V divisions I and II combined handicap race to be contested over 1000 metres. Of them four look on chance, namely, Desert Queen, Blue Fire, Babbu The Great and Mubasharah.
On classification, four-year-old bay filly, Desert Queen is a good speedster and has come down in the handicap while Blue Fire and Babbu The Great have been promoted after winning one race each. The filly Mubasharah is yet to win a race. If honestly ridden Desert Queen and Blue Fire should decide about the winner.
In the main supporting and fifth event, the Sadiqabad Plate class V division II Jago, Lucky Coin and Lucky Short II are the three main contenders. Being fast and quick at the start, the filly Jago has an edge. Classwise Lucky Coin is far superior but lacks present form.
Billoo The Great, Mama Mia and Royal Palace are the pick of the nine acceptors for the fourth race. They should fight for the spoils in the same order.
Chestnut filly Rana Choice looks a good thing in the third race. She was beaten to third place in her outing on Dec 24. With a good rider up in the saddle she should pick up the spoils.
Dark-bay filly Shah Rani is faster than Wah Cisco Wah, the two prominent runners in the second race. The former should have the better of latter and register her first win of the career.
The opener is a race of unregistered and unknown pedigree horses being used for training youngsters at the Lahore Race Club Riding School. They are of unknown pedigrees and unregistered. Seven ponies are in the line up. Blacky, will be attempting to go better than previous outing when finished second.
The first race will be held at 12.30pm.

Place: Wah Cisco Wah.
