Need for sectarian harmony stressed

Published January 10, 2007

PESHAWAR, Jan 9: Federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam here on Tuesday urged notables and elite of Hangu district to closely work for maintaining sectarian harmony during the upcoming Muharram.

Talking to a delegation of notables hailing from Hangu district, the minister said the scourge of sectarianism was against the teaching of Islam and asked them to cooperate with the government in eliminating the elements propagating sectarian hatred.

Mr Muqam, who is also president of the PML NWFP, sought their assistance in foiling designs of those trying to sow the seed of discard between the fellow Muslims, as sectarian strife would hamper the pace of ongoing development projects in the district.

“People promoting hatred for their ulterior motives are not well-wishers of Islam and the country and their elimination is the collective responsibility of every law abiding citizen,” he added.—Correspondent
